In the competitive industrial environment, with the advent of globalisation of economy, industries, government departments, R&D organisations etc need highly educated, trained and specialised engineers & technologists to cope up with the challenges to be faced in the coming millennium. In order to bridge the gap between the requirement and the availability of highly specialised and trained manpower in the emerging areas of technology, the engineers require updating their knowledge and competence, at regular intervals, to learn new technologies.
The Nayudamma Committee (1978-80) recommended for promoting and strengthening postgraduate education in the country with observation that "it is necessary to recognise publicly & publicise widely that, in today's world, postgraduate studies are normal part of basic engineering education". But in the vast country, like India, the benefit of higher education is out of reach to a large number of engineers and universities have limitations to enlarge the existing facilities to undertake massive up gradation programmes due to financial and other constraints. Industries and government departments are also unable to encourage engineers for higher studies on the apprehension of likely disturbance in their normal work schedule.
IEI is deeply concerned with the growing obsolescence of knowledge among its members and their desire to upgrade their competence and technical skills in the areas of their activities. IEI has, therefore, embarked on offering postgraduate programmes in selected disciplines to enable its members to benefit from new technologies being introduced.
This programme is being hosted in collaboration with different university level institutions. |
